Out in the World Again

Ponte Vecchio, minus crowds, 7 in the morning

I’m finally traveling again, post-Covid. In Italy, I would say about 1 in 10,000 people is masked against the dread virus. Things feel free and open, and crowded. I guess there is really no off season in Florence and probably never was.

Florence is a Renaissance City, but I’m drawn to its medieval beauties, like this life-sized painted wood sculpture. This Madonna is looking out for crowds of humanity huddled together—like us today, I’m thinking.

Piazza della Signoria, Florence

As always, Florence is colorful and frenetic. A little rain just makes the colors brighter. The Galleria Uffizi is as crammed as ever, but the other museums and the churches offer quiet contemplation, and sometimes even a place to sit in front of a masterpiece. I’m happy to be back.

During the time I didn’t travel much, WordPress changed in ways I don’t quite understand. Here’s hoping I get to record my memorable moments on the platform again. Testing, testing, testing!
